Welcome ......
The Stuy Town Chess Club was founded in 1992 to educate the members of our community in the art of playing chess well and to promote a sense of community in a city neighborhood among people of all ages.  We have grown in size over the years, and continue to promote chess in an everwidening community.
Although most of our members live within the Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village communities, there are some from other neighborhoods in the five boroughs of New York City as well as some from Northern New Jersey and still others scattered here and there around the globe.
Our games take place at the chess tables in Stuyvesant Town in warm weather every afternoon and evening and indoors on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during inclement weather.  Many of our adults play speed chess, but there are slower games as well.  As you can imagine, the strengths of our players cover a broad range, so usually an opponent of comparable strength is available.

What makes our club different from others is our committment to youth chess.  Members are available most afternoons and evenings to teach kids the game of chess.
